Fulton City Parking Lot May Lose All-Day Spaces

Fulton lawmakers are poised to eliminate the last all-day parking spaces in the downtown retail area.

The Common Council agreed to hold a public hearing on plans to turn the city-owned lot adjacent to the Tavern on the Lock restaurant into two-hour parking only.

The restaurant’s owner recently told lawmakers it was critical for his business to have parking spaces available.

All day parking is available in lots just outside the retail district.

In other items, the Council:

• Approved allowing the Mayor to sign an application for voluntary coverage of disability benefits for certain employees who are not legally required to have it. Mayor Ron Woodward called it a “housekeeping” item, something that’s done routinely;
• Held a public hearing on proposed changes to the city code that would ban the use of indoor appliances such as refrigerators outdoors on porches or decks. No one spoke at the hearing;
• Held a public hearing on a proposed change to the city charter that would change the way commercial structures are demolished. No one spoke at the hearing;
• Approved a contract with a company called General Code-Base Codification Services, which will put the city’s codes and charter into a form that can be posted online;
• Transferred $1,300 into an account for code enforcement court cases, so that the city can use retired city police officer Doug Kinney to track down building owners who live out of town and give them court summonses;
• Honored Liverpool Boy Scout Michael Sanson and his father, Richard, for the work they did to clean up Schenk Park. It was the younger Sanson’s Eagle Scout project;
• Honored Roy Hodge, editor and columnist at the Fulton Patriot, who retires on Friday, for his 50 years of service to the community.
