FULTON, NY – With signs out front declaring an urgent need for all blood types, the city of Fulton Municipal Building was the site of Monday’s American Red Cross blood drive.
As the donors trickled in to the Community Room so did the precious red blood cells and whole blood that the Red Cross collects for the blood bank.
American Red Cross donor specialist Will noted the nation’s blood bank needs constant resupply. “Most donated red blood cells must be used within 42 days of collection,” he said.

Donor specialist Amanda has been “sticking” people for 14 years and after a private consultation she prepared donor Kayla to draw a pint.
“I started giving blood when I was 16 years old,” Kayla said, “and they sent me a letter telling me how many people I’d helped. I’ve been doing it twice a year ever since.”
Normally the process to donate a pint of blood takes about 10 minutes and after a 10-15 minute relaxation period donors can continue on with their day.
For those donating red cells or plasma they may need to budget up to two hours of time.
And of course, along with the special limited edition March sticker, Kayla and all of Monday’s donors got a cookie.
Anyone who wishes to give blood in the area today (April 1) may visit the Oswego Moose Lodge.
SUNY Oswego will host the American Red Cross from April 1-3, and Believer’s Chapel will hold its monthly blood drive on April 9.
