Fulton Jazz Fest Culminates with Music Clinic, Evening Music Line-Up

FULTON, NY – In its ninth year, Fulton Jazz Fest has again brought the rhythmic sounds of jazz to the shores of Lake Neatahwanta.

For the first time, the two-day event took on an additional evening at Fulton’s Bullhead Point on Thursday (August 10) as The Easy Money Big Band kicked off the festivities.

“We had a couple hundred people there, it was a great kick off,” said Jazz Fest board member, Janet Rebeor. “They loved the music, the food stands were busy all night, it was such a success.”

Longley Brothers Dodge and the city of Fulton paired together to co-sponsor the kick off evening.

The fun rolled over into Friday evening (August 11) as Peter Mack & The Macket took the stage at 5 p.m. behind the War Memorial followed by Brownskin Band at 7 p.m. and Brass Inc. closing out the night at 8:30 p.m.

The family friendly event offered food options from local businesses catering including Blue Moon Grill with food, as well as beer and wine selection with proper ID, Upperlandings, and Kathy’s Cakes and Specialty Treats.

Fulton Jazz Festival, Inc., a 501c3 organization, is entirely volunteer run and funded through numerous donations and sponsorships including lead sponsor Fulton Savings Bank as well as a grant from the CNY Council on the Arts, allowing free admission to the hundreds of guests that attend.

The board of directors made up of president Joseph Cortini, treasurer Tony Rebeor, secretary Beth Ann Dice, and board members Janet Rebeor, Bill Hubel and Janet Lake, remain dedicated to provided a free, family fun event full of quality music.

A new addition to the fest’s fun includes a musical clinic hosted by Tony Monaca on the B3 along with Louis Tsamous on drums and Derek DiCenzo on guitar from 2 – 3 p.m. at the Fulton War Memorial as the result of a grant from the Oswego County Community Foundation.

The event is open to the public and available to any musicians or individuals interested in learning about jazz in a classroom setting, with an informal jam session to follow immediately.

Adding a music education component to the event is something the board of directors have always hoped to do, Rebeor said.

The music fest will culminate after Saturday’s clinic starting with Freefall Jazz Orchestra at 4 p.m., Tony Monaco Trio at 6 p.m., and ending with Classified at 8 p.m.
