Fulton Joins Other Cities in Buying Cooperative

The City of Fulton is joining the local-government equivalent of a Sam’s Club.

City lawmakers recently approved the city’s participation in a cooperative with other cities in the state.  The cooperative will try to save money on big purchases by buying in bulk.

This cooperative, Mayor Ron Woodward explained, is aimed at buying fire department equipment and vehicles.

“Doesn’t cost us anything” to be part of it, he said.

He’s beginning to be concerned about the state of the city’s fire trucks.  One pumper is 30 years old, he said.

A typical new pumper costs half a million dollars, he said.
