FULTON – Mayor Deana Michaels announced last night, February 11, via social media that her predecessor, former Mayor Ronald Woodward, has died.

“Mayor Woodward served the City of Fulton for many years and did so selflessly with dedication, with passion and with heart,” Michaels said in a Facebook post. “In the coming weeks we will work with his family to pay respect and to honor Mayor Woodward’s service to the city and community he loved so dearly. I am personally honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside the Mayor and learn from his wealth of knowledge of the city. He will be missed by so many.”

As a lifelong Fultonian, Woodward served the city from 1982 to 2019. He served on the Common Council from 1982 to Dec. 31, 1985. Woodward then served as mayor Jan. 1, 1986 to Dec. 31, 1987. At this time he battled his first of two rounds with cancer and took a break from serving the city.

In 1996 Woodward came back and did not stop working for the people of Fulton to date. He spent 1996 to 2003 on the Common Council again, 2004 to 2007 as executive assistant to the mayor, then served as mayor from 2008 to 2019 when he decided to step down and end his three decades of service[1].

Woodward’s obituary can be found here[2].
