FULTON, NY – Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. and Common Council president Donald Patrick Jr. have addressed a concerning public safety issue throughout the city.
Several houses, they say, do not comply with city charter regulation stating that all houses must have clear, visible house numbers.
The issue is that of public safety, Patrick said.
“What do you do if you have an ambulance driver that can’t find the right address?” Mayor Woodward questioned.
An unmarked house could receive a notice from the codes department alerting homeowners that they are in violation of the city charter regarding house numbers.
If left ignored, the violation could reach a court appearance and result in a potential fine if unresolved.
“With the 911 service, these houses need to be identified,” Patrick said.
According to Section 475-9 Owner Responsibilities under Article II of Chapter 475 Property Conservation, criteria is laid out for house numbers as described:
“C. All buildings and structures shall have placed thereon, in a conspicuous space, street numbers, either in the form of figures or letting, which shall be of contrasting color to the building on what they are placed, so that that are clearly legible from the middle of the road of adjacent streets, avenues, places or highways. Such numbers shall be sized as follows:
City officials are urging all city residents to ensure their house number is properly and visibly displayed following city charter criteria.
