FULTON – On Thursday, the City of Fulton welcomed three recruits to its police force, helping to bulk out the department that has struggled to find new officers.

“It has been nearly three years since the Fulton Police Department has been able to enjoy welcoming recruits to the department,” Police Chief Michael Curtis said. “This is an important first step to be able to move forward to enhancing our department [and] solidifying our public safety.”

Mayor James Rice welcomed the recruits to the police department and expressed his gratitude for their dedication on behalf of the city. Judge Spencer J. Luddington administered the oath of office to the three recruits, Logan Bonnell, Steven Monnat, and John Licciardello, in the Fulton City Hall courtroom.
The recruits will attend training through the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and Central New York’s Police Academy starting this month and completing it in October.
After the academy and field training, they will be certified by the academy as police officers.
Recently, recruiting has been rather difficult as the available listing of candidates is much smaller than years prior. This pool is used by several other agencies in New York as well, which has resulted in several potential recruits declining positions with the Fulton Police Department to go to other county sheriffs and counties nearby.
