FULTON, NY – Fulton Resident Aiden Carter was presented yesterday, April 21, with the highest honor New York State’s Senate can bestow on an individual – NYS Senator John W. Mannion awarding Carter with the Liberty Award for his heroism and life-saving actions at the scene of a fiery car crash.

Aiden and his father, New York Air National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Carter called 911 and helped the driver to safety as the vehicle caught on fire.

On September 1, 2022, Aiden, age 13 at the time, and his father were driving along Route-481 when they witnessed a single-car crash. They noticed that the car was facing southbound on the shoulder and was on fire.

Aiden immediately called 911 and, with his father, began trying to find a way to get the driver and passengers out. Despite the car being fully engulfed in flames, Aiden and other travelers did everything they could to help the injured driver. As the car burned, Aiden moved the driver to a safer location three times before the ambulance arrived. His heroic actions helped save the driver’s life and demonstrated his extraordinary bravery and selflessness.

“I am proud to honor Aiden Carter for his courage and exceptional bravery in saving the life of his fellow New Yorker. Aiden’s actions are a reminder that, even in the most difficult of circumstances, we can find the strength to help others and make a difference in our community,” Mannion said.

Yesterday’s event took place at the Fulton Pblic Library. Attending yesterday’s event was Fulton Common Councilor President Dan Farfaglia along with Councilor Doug Chapman; Farfaglia presenting a proclamation to Carter on behalf of his heroism, bravery and selfless actions during a life or death situation.

Fulton Mayor Deana Michaels said, “We proudly celebrate and honor Aiden’s courage to save the life of another. At 13 years old, he is truly a hometown hero”

Oswego County Legislature Minority Leader Frank Castiglia Jr. said, “Aiden Carter’s courage that day is a testament to family values and teachings, putting others’ needs above his own. Thank you Aiden Carter for being the person your family raised you to be. We need more Aiden Carter’s in this world.”
