FULTON, NY – Groh Dredging and Marine’s dredger moored just off the Lake Neatahwanta shoreline of Stevenson Beach on Tuesday as the company readied its equipment to begin pumping
.
The sludge which has been accumulating on the lake bottom for decades will be sluiced by the dredger into geotubes onshore.
After more than 20 years of study, the project to clean the waters of Lake Neatahwanta gained great momentum after the Department of Environmental Conservation granted the necessary permits just a few weeks ago to allow dredging.
Senator Patty Ritchie announced this week that, in addition to the grant money awarded last year, the lake clean-up effort would get another $200,000 boost.
The state senator is expected to visit the lake next week.
