14 people applied; 10 were chosen.

10 Hannibal school district residents will become part of a committee that screens applicants for the district’s Superintendent’s position.

Board of Education President Fred Patane pulled the 10 names out of a box at a board meeting held moments after last Tuesday’s vote approving a new budget for next school year.

They are:

Patane asked the district to preserve the applications of the four who were not chosen in case another drawing needs to be held to fill a vacancy.

The 10 members, along with board members, administrators and other staff will hold their first meeting in June with the consultant hired by the district to carry out the search.

Current Superintendent Mike DiFabio will leave at the end of the school year.  The board rejected a contract extension for him which had been negotiated by a committee of board members.

A temporary superintendent has been hired to serve for the entire 2011-12 school year, giving the committee a full year to interview candidates and make a choice.
