At about 10:05 a.m. today (April 6), State Police stopped a vehicle on State Route 690 in the town of VanBuren for a traffic violation.
The operator was not able to provide troopers with identification, and gave a name and date of birth.
Investigation at the scene revealed the operator had provided a false name and date of birth, and he was positively identified as Thomas M. Simmons, 33, of Hannibal, police said.
Further investigation revealed Simmons was also allegedly in possession of heroin.
Simmons was taken into custody and transported to SP Lysander.
He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Criminal Impersonation in the 2nd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Forged Inspection Certificate, all misdemeanors, as well as various vehicle and traffic law violations.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of VanBuren Court on April 11 2016.
