Hannibal Schools Launch New Website

The Hannibal Central School District this week launched a new website that aims to be more organized than the original one, and offer tools to help parents and teachers get information.

The new Hannibalcsd.org is built on a platform provided by an outside company, Edline, and it replaces the hand-built site that the district has used for many years.

Fairley Elementary School Principal Jody Musa, who also heads the district’s technology efforts, said “the nicest feature on the new website” is the many calendars that people will be able to use.

There’s a calendar for district-wide events, such as Superintendent’s Days or vacation days.  There’s a calendar for each school building, and one for sports events.

“We’ve had this big, paper calendar in our offices,” Musa said. “We’re going to keep that going for the rest of the year, but we’re also going to put it on the website.”

The old website could be updated by just three people, Musa said.  This one can be updated by anyone.  Musa said people can be given access to just their portion of the website, so they can publish and update content.

“It’s taking this enormous task and parting it out a little bit more to keep it more up to date,” he said.

Musa credited high school physics teacher Carol Burch and middle school computer teacher Dan Rupert as members of the team that made the new website happen.

He said the stock photography featured on pages of the website will be replaced with local photos as they can get the photos.
