High Winds Scour Oswego County, Take Down Power and Trees

A strong wind storm knocked out power in spots across Oswego County on Wednesday while tearing down some tree limbs.
At its worst, winds hit 47 miles an hour at the Oswego County Airport near Fulton, where the National Weather Service has a weather station, and 61 miles an hour in Oswego, as recorded by the weather monitor at the US Coast Guard station there.
Unusually high waves were reported on Lake Ontario, with wave heights of 14 feet at the midday peak of the storm.
Power was out in areas across the region, including the west side of Fulton late in the afternoon. A police officer directed traffic at the intersection of Route 48 and Oneida St. because the traffic signal was out.
A few blocks away, wind knocked over a tree in the yard of a home on 4th St. The fallen tree did no damage.
No injuries were reported as a result of the windstorm, which scoured the counties along the Lake Ontario and Lake Erie shore. Winds of 40 to 60 miles an hour were reported all the way from Jamestown in the far southwestern part of the state to Oswego and the eastern Lake Ontario shore.
