Oswego Health took the wraps off of its new Urgent Care facility for Fulton on Monday.
The new facility occupies what used to be the main patient floor at the former Lee Memorial Hospital.
The space features large rooms for seeing patients, along with rooms for X-ray, ultrasound and CT scan procedures.
It’s a big upgrade from the current Urgent Care facility, which has been using the former emergency room area of the closed hospital since it opened.
“This building does not look anything like it did even a few months ago,” said Oswego Health CEO Ann Gilpin in welcoming several dozen political, hospital and community leaders to the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The project was built entirely with state funds. A $19 million grant from the State Health Department and a $4.5 million supplemental grant from the state Legislature is making possible the renovation of the former hospital into a medical services facility.
The facility will welcome members of the public today from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. for tours. The new Urgent Care will open on Thursday.
In the meantime, work will continue throughout the building to provide space for more medical services. Digital mammography and bone density services will move into the renovated building from the medical office building next door. Physical therapy services will move eventually to the lower level of the hospital from the Eckerd plaza next door. Lab and occupational therapy services will locate in the building sometime next year.
Gilpin said Oswego Health is also hoping to convince a physician group to move into the building.
“I always refer to (the Fulton facility) as the shining star, and it is going to be when it is complete,” Gilpin said.
