Ritchie: New State Budget Includes Money to Fix Local Roads and Bridges

The state will spend an extra $75 million in the next two years to fix its crumbling roads and bridges, according to State Senator Patty Ritchie.

The money is in a program called CHIPS, the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program.

“I am especially pleased that we are able to provide the first increase in funding for local highways in over five years,” Ritchie said in a release announcing the local projects. “This additional funding will go far in helping our local towns, villages and counties with highway work that’s needed to keep people and goods moving, and our economy growing stronger.”

The State Senate began passing budget bills over the weekend.  The Assembly is scheduled to return on Thursday to begin passing budget bills.  The end result should be a budget approved in advance of the April 1 deadline for the third year in a row.
