CENTRAL NEW YORK – Take cover Oswego County. Severe weather is in the forecast today and could bring hail, damaging winds and the possibility of tornadoes.The National Weather Service[1] has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Central New York. With that, a tornado watch is in effect for the areas under the warning.
According to the service, Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing penny sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 m.p.h. The storms were located along a line extending from 15 miles west of Oswego to 5 miles south of Clyde and moving east at 50 m.p.h.
The warning continues until approximately noon.
A tornado watch also remains in effect for the warned areas. If a tornado is spotted, officials suggest people act quickly and move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure such as a basement or small interior room.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 6 p.m., for western New York.
