Two people died in a car crash in Hannibal Tuesday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Department says Salvator Licciardello, 72, of 139 Emilia Circle, South, Rochester, drove his Jeep across the center line of Route 3 between County Route 7 and Pollard Rd. at about 1:18 p.m.

His vehicle, heading west on Route 3, slammed head-on into a Chevy Cobalt driven by Tanya Mellon, 24, of 326 Sharp Road, Fulton.  The impact drove the Jeep into the ditch on one side of the road and the car into the opposite ditch.

Both were killed.  Mellon was pronounced dead at the scene, while Licciardello was pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital.

There was a passenger in the Jeep.  Gerlando Cardinale, 69, of 29 Markie Drive West, Rochester was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse.

Later in the day, an elderly woman who has not been identified by police was injured in a crash not far away, at the intersection of Route 104 and County Route 21. She was flown to University Hospital in Syracuse.
