FULTON, NY – The volunteer stewards of Great Bear Springs Recreational Area have completed a wheelchair, handicapped accessible trail at Great Bear.

Named the Apple Trail, the trail is approximately .4-mile, meandering through canopied sections of the original apple orchard.
Starting across from the kiosk, by the Great Bear entrance, the trail is designed as a return loop.
In addition, the trail can be exited at about the halfway point accessing the service road or other trails.
In building the trail accessible guidelines were followed.
The trail is more than three feet wide with many places at least six feet for turnaround and passing.

There is a cleared area as a rest stop that will have a bench added.
The trail is flat, hard packed soil (“firm and stable”).
The trail in addition, will be fun for young families with children learning to cross-country ski, snowshoe and mountain bike or hike.
Thanks to all who helped work on and put in this trail, including the student government students from CCC.
