OSWEGO COUNTY – The upcoming Election Day is on November 5th, and the deadline to register to vote is October 26th.
If you haven’t registered yet, you can request a registration form by calling 315-349-8350 or 315-349-8351, or you can register online via New York State’s government website[1].
Additionally, absentee voting and early voting are available on the website. Here’s a list of candidates and ballot proposals on both the federal and state level that Oswego County residents should know about for the upcoming election
Federal:
President/ Vice President U.S.
U.S. Senate New York
U.S. House New York District 24
New York State:
New York State Assembly District 120
Ballot Proposals:
The proposal seeks to add protections to the bill of right to prohibit discrimination based on ethnicity, origin, age, disability and sex. It also protects New Yorkers who seek access to reproductive healthcare from discrimination.
The proposal would grant The Department of Sanitation more authority to keep city property clean. It would also allow DSNY to regulate how New Yorkers put out their garbage for collection.
Simply put, the proposal would allow the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget to provide an estimate for cost of proposed laws and requires the City Council to publish the estimates before a public hearing can occur for the proposed law. It would also extend the deadline for the mayor to publish their annual City budget.
The City Council must give 30 days’ notice before voting on public safety laws that impact the Police Department, Department of Correction, or the Fire Department. During this 30-day period, the mayor and City agencies may also hold public hearings for additional public input.
The city must estimate the cost of maintaining city facilities and infrastructure and must publish the costs in capital planning reports.
The proposal would create a new role to support Minority and Women owned Business’, allow the mayor to decide what agency issues film permits, and merge two boards that manage city records into one.
