SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded public housing organizations in Central New York with $1,286,969 in funding to support individuals and families assisted by Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) and Mainstream Vouchers.

These vouchers provide low-income families, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly with safe and affordable housing options in the private market.

The funding is available through the CARES Act, bipartisan legislation Rep. Katko supported in the House, which allocated $12.4 billion for HUD to support local efforts to address COVID-19. This new funding will allow public housing organizations in Central New York to ensure HCV and Mainstream Voucher recipients have the resources they need to remain healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As a result of the CARES Act, bipartisan legislation I supported in the House, local public housing organizations have been awarded nearly $1.3 million in funding to support Central New Yorkers who are assisted by Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) and Mainstream Vouchers,” said Rep. Katko. “Especially during this pandemic, it is imperative public housing organizations have the resources they need to keep residents safe and healthy. With these new funds, local housing organizations will provide Central New Yorkers who rely on HCV and Mainstream Vouchers with the resources and support they need to remain healthy and safe during the pandemic.”
