On August 29, at approximately 9:28 p.m., State Police in Watertown responded to 2508 Prince Brook Road in the town of Osceola, Lewis County, for a single ATV fatal collision.
The investigation revealed, Richard D. Shaw, 52, from Oswego, was operating a 2012 Arctic Cat ATV, with 5 other people when they noticed Mr. Shaw was no longer following the group.
The group backtracked, locating Mr. Shaw’s ATV in a running condition against a telephone pole with Mr. Shaw laying on his back next to the ATV.
It appears Mr. Shaw was traveling southerly on Prince Brook Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve.
The ATV left the east shoulder of the roadway striking a telephone pole head-on.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Redfield Fire Department.
