OSWEGO – On August 30, 2017, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a report of child abuse on Albion Cross Road in the town of Albion.

The report was initiated when the 10-year-old victim fled from a residence on Albion Cross Road and reported to a neighbor that she had been the victim of ongoing physical abuse.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office have charged Gary Bubis Jr, 37, of 393 Albion Cross Road, with Assault in the Second Degree.
Also charged with Assault in the Second Degree is 23-year-old Shawn Whaley and 18-year-old Brandy Shaver of the same address.

Leslieann Raeder, 34, of 393 Albion Cross Road has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The investigation has revealed that the victim allegedly was the target of beatings since April.
The victim was struck with open hands, closed fists, and was kicked repeatedly, police said.
According to police, an implement was used to strike the victim.
The victim had meals withheld and was required to eat one meal a day doused with hot sauce, according to the report.

The investigation revealed that the victim was allegedly required to work outside all day and was not provided food, water, or access to a bathroom and was not allowed to bathe.
Further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office revealed that the victim was taken to the Happy Valley Game Management Park and forced to run with weighted backpacks. The victim was followed and struck by the motor vehicle for running too slow. The victim was tied to the rear of the vehicle by a rope for running too slow and was dragged.
Bubis’ assault charge stems from an additional allegation that he forced a 3-year-old victim’s hand into a container of hot water, causing burns to the hand.
Bubis, Whalen, and Shaver were arraigned in the Williamstown Court.
First Assistant District Attorney Mark Moody was present at the arraignment before Judge Bull.
The defendants were remanded to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of Moody’s recommended bail of $25000.00 cash /$50,000 bond.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are likely.
Anyone with any further information is urged to contact Sheriff’s investigators at 315-349-3411.
