OSWEGO – The City of Oswego has again participated in the annual “Tithe My Shoes” campaign.
A donation bin was placed in the lobby of City Hall during the holiday season to collect gently used shoe and boot donations from community members. The footwear is then taken for repair and cleaning before they are brought to the Rescue Mission. Ralph Rotella, owner of Discount Shoe Repair and event organizer, began this donation program 11 years ago.
Millard “Mudd” Murphy, former Central Square Mayor and Executive Director of the Oswego County Conference of Mayors, spearheaded this generous initiative in our county. Thanks to residents’ generous donations, Oswego County was able to collect more than 900 pairs of shoes and boots this year.
In addition to the City of Oswego’s proud participation, other community partners assisting in the collection of donations was Assemblyman Barclay’s Office in Fulton, SUNY Oswego, and Oswego County municipalities of Central Square, Clevland, Mexico, Parish, Phoenix, and Pulaski.
“It is an honor to be able to be even a small part in such a substantial donation operation.” said Mayor Corradino. “Thank you to our residents for continuing to make it such a success and the leadership behind its continuation to meet the needs of so many.”
City and community representatives were present on donation pick-up day for a photo.
