City of Oswego to Pay $7 Million for Infrastructure Project

During the Oswego City Council meeting Monday night, City Engineer Jeff Hinderliter requested acceptance of a bid submitted by Rifenburg Construction Inc. in the amount of $7,069,115 for construction services. Hinderliter could not attend the meeting, but Mayor Robert Corradino spoke on the matter.

The project goes from Utica Street south to about 500 feet south of Murray Street. Corradino stated that it’s not just paving the streets; infrastructure work will be being done. Things like water and sewer lines will be replaced.

Corradino said that the city had $3,383,588.70 that was awarded from the State Touring Route funds, which the city does not have to match. He also said the city would likely receive $900,000 once the state budget is approved. “That currently leaves about $3.7 million dollars,” said Corradino, “part of it will be bonded for, part of it will come out of the Sewer Enterprise fund.”

Corradino hopes to start in the spring, providing the city receives funding, and promises the project will be over by the end of the year.

Other requested items approved:

• The Office of Economic Development received a request from Oswego County Federal Credit Union to host their annual children’s easter egg hunt in Washington Square Park on Saturday April 12.
• Hinderliter requested authorization for the mayor to sign amendment #2 with C&S Companies Inc in the amount of $25,750. It is to fix the roads after the infrastructure work is done.
• Hinderliter requested authorization for the mayor to sign amendment #3 with C&S Companies in the amount of $636,000. It is to pay for oversight into the work being done to the infrastructure.
