OSWEGO, NY – At Tuesday’s meeting of the Physical Services Committee, Julie Burns, president of the Kiwanis Club, announced plans for the club to take over the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
She requested use of Breitbeck Park, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., on April 15 for the event.

“Last year there was trouble with the hunt. So, this year, we’d like to take it over,” she told the committee. “Our mission is to improve the lives of children.”
They have hosted events for hundreds of children, and their parents, and never had any trouble, she said.
“The biggest problems at children’s events, as all parents know, is parents,” she said.
For the hunt, children will be on the inside of the hunt area and parents will be outside, she explained.
“The idea is to use Breitbeck Park and fence off the egg hunt part and to keep the parents on the outside of that,” she said. “The other idea is to provide children of different ages different times to hunt. Everybody will leave with a bag. Everybody will have to register.”
There will be plenty of volunteers on hand to do crafts and other activities to keep the children busy and entertained, she added.
Justin Rudgick, Community Development director and chair of Special Events Committee, received a request for the Tri-Oswego Sporting Event to be held on June 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event organizer is requesting the use of public space, road closures and noise ordinance waiver. They are requesting use of the Breitbeck Park area and the McCrobie Building. They are also asking for use of the Flexo site for additional parking.

Since the Special Events Committee is still working on creating an updated policy for events, Rudgick recommended sending the request to the council under the current requirements.
Rudgick said he also received a request for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on March 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The event organizer is requesting the use of public space and road closures for the event.
They are requesting road closures of:
Since there is no clear-cut new policy, Rudgick reiterated this request should also be considered as it was last year.
All three requests were sent to the full council for consideration.
