OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 63 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.
Today there are 544 active cases across the county.
SUNY Oswego reported no cases today.
The Oswego County Health Department is investigating confirmed cases of COVID-19 at two Oswego businesses.
Anyone who visited the following businesses during these time periods may have been exposed to COVID-19:
Subway, 21 E. Bridge St., Oswego: Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.;
Bosco and Geers, 343 East Ave., Oswego: Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 3:30 to 9 p.m.
More information can be found here[1].
Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted a weekly briefing video today. In the update, he discussed regional metrics and what will happen should CNY’s hospitalization numbers not stabilize.
Yesterday, the state-wide positivity rate was 4.79%. In Oswego County, it was 7.7%. Over the past seven days, almost 8% of Oswego County residents who were tested for COVID had the virus.
“If you don’t know someone who has been infected or come in contact with an infected person, you probably will soon,” Weatherup said. “It is not safe for different households to get together, even if they are from the same family. This includes dinners, birthday parties, kids sleepovers and holiday parties.”
He said the virus is spreading to families in different households, adult care facilities and exposures in restaurants and businesses.
Although there is an alarming increase in cases in Oswego County, the state has not yet placed any county areas in a Yellow, Orange or Red Zone. Yesterday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that if a region’s hospitalization rate does not stabilize within five days, indoor dining restrictions will be reduced to 25% of a restaurant’s capacity.
Oswego County is grouped in to the Central New York region.
“These decisions are based on metrics and the State Health Department will be looking at regional hospital capacity and how much stress there is on the regional health care system,” Weatherup said. “If a region’s 7-day average hospitalization growth rate shows that the region’s hospitals have reached 90% of their patient capacity within the next three weeks, the region will become a Red Zone.”
This means restaurants would only be able to do take-out and non-essential businesses will close again. More information on how the zone restrictions work can be found here[2].
He said in the CNY region, hospitalizations have increased sharply within the past week. The number of available hospital beds and the number of available Intensive Care Unit beds are declining steadily, especially in the past five or six days.
Weatherup said yesterday Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Americans that the anticipated surge following the Thanksgiving holiday has not hit yet and everyone should be prepared for the pandemic to continue to get worse, especially come the middle of January.
The county’s COVID-19 Hotline (315-349-3330) is now open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
