OSWEGO, NY – With regard to the recent house fire at 70 West Mohawk Street; Oswego, City Fire Chief Jeffrey McCrobie and Oswego City Police Chief Tory DeCaire have issued the following joint release:
Members of the Oswego City Fire and Police Departments have been investigating the cause of the recent house fire at 70 West Mohawk Street in which a three-year-old boy, Jeremiah Haskins, was tragically killed.
Preliminary information, supported by physical evidence at the scene, indicates that the fire was accidentally set by a juvenile in the residence.
The juvenile apparently had inadvertently started the fire while playing with a lighter.
In accordance with New York State Law which prohibits criminally charging someone under the age of seven years old, there have not been any criminal charges filed against the juvenile as a result of the incident.
The investigation is continuing.
