Investigators: Pulaski Fire Was Accidental
On Sunday February 5, at about 7:05 a.m. a fire was reported at the Spring Brook Apartments located at 4920 N. Jefferson St. in the village of Pulaski.
Fire personnel that responded to the scene included Pulaski Ringold, Sandy Creek, Mexico, Richland, Orwell, Lacona, New Haven, Altmar, Parish, Central Square and Scriba.
Williamstown and Mannesville of Jefferson County provided standby support.
The fire which was contained to a single apartment caused the residents of the building to be evacuated. 88-year-old Carl Tanner was reportedly the sole occupant inside the apartment where the fire broke out.
Members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist along with members of the Oswego County Coroner’s Office.
Mr. Tanner was transported by N.O.C.A. to Oswego Hospital for his injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
The exact cause of death remains under investigation pending a medical exam.
Other minor injuries sustained from the fire were treated at the scene by members of NOCA, McFee and Menter ambulance.
The origin and cause of the fire is being investigated with the assistance of the Oswego County Fire Investigation Team.
Initial investigation indicates the fire was accidentally started by the victim while cooking his breakfast.

PULASKI, NY – A Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) is on the scene of a multi-unit apartment fire at 4917 Jefferson Street in Pulaski.
A total of 120 seniors were evacuated to the village hall shortly after the incident.
At this time, the fire is out and seniors are being let back into the apartment units, except for the floor where the fire damage was contained.
The fire broke out around 7 a.m. today (Feb. 5). It was put out in about an hour.
One person was reportedly taken to an area hospital.
The cause is under investifation.
