OSWEGO – Repainting of the Franklin Square Park Playground in Oswego was one of the main topics discussed during last night’s Oswego Common Council meeting, Monday, October 26.
Jessie Vanucci and community members requested Use of Public Space to repaint the Franklin Street Park Playground. The wooden playground is showing signs of wear, needing repair to prevent future weather damage.
A $6,000 allocation of city funds to buy paint will be purchased by the Department of Public Works for creation of the project. All safety guidelines will be followed, not exceeding more than 50 people throughout the projected time frame. The projected project date was slated for Oct. 24 to 25.
“They let me pick the colors, actually,” Mayor Billy Barlow said. “They sent me a list of ten options; ten color combinations; I told them no, which one’s I didn’t like, and then they took the last four that I liked and did a neighborhood vote.”

The City Engineer has confirmed that several public utilities run under the street, the issues needing to be addressed in the event of a possible street closure.
The City Charter requires that street closures must occur two consecutive years before the actual cessation of the street. The council passed a resolution of the street closure upon adoption of resolutions in two consecutive years.
The following resolutions were all unanimously passed during the meeting:
The next Oswego Common Council meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 9 at the McCrobie Building until further notice. The agenda for the October 26 meeting can be found here[1].
