Hastings Man Charged With Arson, Other Charges

HASTINGS – A Hastings resident is facing felony arson charges as well as other charges following a fire that destroyed a residence, a garage and two vehicles.

David T. Wendt, 36, of 149 CR 38, Hastings, was arrested Sunday (April 1) at 5:03 a,m.

He was charged with two counts of fourth-degree arson, a class E felony; fourth-degree criminal mischief (Reckless Property Damage) a class A misdemeanor, fourth-degree criminal mischief (Intentional Damage to Property), a class A misdemeanor and second-degree reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor.

The arrest stems from a domestic dispute in the town of Hastings.

According to police, he allegedly lit a pair of pants on fire causing a garage along with the belongings inside, including two vehicles and residence to be destroyed.

Wendt is scheduled to answer the charges on April 16 in the Town of Hastings Court.
