Inaugural Friends of Oswego St. Patrick’s Day Parade Set Saturday

OSWEGO, NY – Cre8 Studios, with the support of the Oswego community, will host the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday in downtown Oswego starting at 1 p.m.

parade routeThe parade will begin along West First Street at West Schuyler Street, crossing Bridge Street and turning on to East First Street where it will conclude at the Lake Ontario Conference Center.

Road closures will begin along the parade route at 12:30 p.m.

“The St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been a topic of interest for some time now and we’re pleased to bring this event to the community,” said Cre8 Studios owner and event director, Christopher Jones. “We couldn’t have done this without community support and investments. It’s been inspiring and participation has far exceeded our initial expectations for a first year parade.”

This year’s parade will be led by Oswego Mayor, Billy Barlow.

An award will be given out for Best Parade Entry. Judges are Karen Oakes, Greg Mills and Bruce Bailey.

There will be three surprise youth judges as well.

Thanks to local sponsors, G.S. Steamers Bar & Grill and the Beacon Hotel, parade favorites Downbeat Percussion will be performing in Saturday’s parade.

Other event sponsors include Oswego County Federal Credit Union, Paul Stewart, The Oakes family, Fitzgibbon’s Insurance Agency, The Darling Elves, Lake Effect Car Wash, Dynamic Automotive & Home Accessories, the Greater Oswego Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Oswego Lions Club, Dufores Jewelry, and individual community member contributions.

“More than anything we are excited about the creative efforts being made for parade entries. We are hoping for a fun parade and encourage spectator support for our participants,” Jones said. “Oswego should be a city where tourists come to shop, explore, tell their friends about and a place where our own residents are excited to live in. The parade is one of the many ways we are trying to fulfill this goal.”

Many local restaurants and bars will be will be hosting live music, activities and Irish themed food and drinks.

After the parade the Oswego “D bus” will be offering free shuttle service in Oswego on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m., sponsored by Eagle Beverage.

The city of Oswego asks those over 21 to please drink responsibly while enjoying our downtown.

City and event officials would also like to remind everyone that the city’s Open Container Ordinance, which prohibits open containers in public spaces, will remain in effect.
