Light Up Oswego, Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Set November 29

OSWEGO – After a day of feasting with family and friends, Oswego is planning a new way to kick off the holiday season.
Light Up Oswego, a new event to take place on November 29, is being planned by local community members in cooperation with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
This is a free family event meant to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the holiday season together as a community.
The celebration will kick off the holiday season in Oswego with activities beginning as early as 10 a.m. that day.
The Toys for Tots “A Day of Sharing” which takes place every year at the Lake Ontario Conference Center will feature activities, Santa’s arrival by firetruck, and pictures with Santa when you bring a toy to donate to the Oswego County Toys for Tots.
A special children with disabilities hour will run from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Toys for Tots event to allow a quieter sensory time with Santa prior to the 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. main activities.
The day will continue with multiple events to include a shopping expo, parade, business storefront lighting, downtown vendors, and a few more surprises as the committee continues to build on a new community-wide celebration.
The evening will conclude with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, hosted by Mayor Tom Gillen, at 6 p.m. next to City Hall.
Many restaurants and businesses will be open during the day and after the tree lighting to offer holiday shopping and dining specials as part of Small Business Saturday.
Residents are encouraged to support our local businesses by making plans to shop local during our holiday season.
A home decoration contest will be announced along with details of the day’s activities and timeline for November 29.
