Motorist Hospitalized With ‘Life-Threatening’ Injuries, No Students Injured In Car-Bus Crash

State Police in Hastings have identified the driver of the Subaru Impreza as 22-year-old Anthony J. Farrell of Central Square.

The school bus was operated by 57-year-old John M. Aragona of West Monroe.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – On Monday, September 25, at approximately 3:50 p.m. State Police in Hastings responded to the intersection of Barker Road and Shanty Creek Road for a report of a collision involving a Central Square school bus and a Subaru Impreza.

The investigation revealed the Subaru was traveling southbound on Shanty Creek Road when it struck a Central Square Central School District bus that was headed eastbound carrying between fifteen and twenty elementary students.

State Police, Central Square Fire Department, Menter Ambulance, along with staff from the Central Square Central School District all responded to assist.

No injuries were reported by any students or the bus driver.

Students were transported home by another bus from the school district, while others were picked up by parents from the scene.

The driver of the Subaru was extricated from his vehicle by Central Square Fire Department and transported by Menter Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he is listed in critical condition.

The intersection on Barker and Shanty Creek roads remains closed while State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, along with New York State Department of Transportation and Central Square transportation officials continue to investigate the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be forthcoming as they become available.
