OSWEGO – The Oswego County Department of Motor Vehicles and County Records Center on East River Road will remain open for business over the next several weeks as contractors begin the demolition of the old Oswego County jail.

County Clerk Michael C. Backus said parking spots on the north side of the “old jail” building will be restricted while the building is being demolished.

There is parking directly adjacent to the DMV office, and customers will also be able to use the employee parking area behind the DMV building.

Traffic may temporarily be reduced to one lane with flaggers, as crews complete site work and demolish the building.

The demolition project is expected to begin Oct. 20 and continue through late November.

“Our expectation is that the demolition will cause as little service disruption as possible” said Backus. “The DMV and Records Center are open for business during regular hours. Our goal is to continue to be efficient as possible while protecting the safety of our employees and customers.”

DMV customers may use the Fulton and Pulaski offices as alternatives.

Or, they may download forms from the DMV Web site at http://www.oswegocounty.com/dmv.shtml and mail them to any of the local DMV offices.

Mail-in transactions to the local DMVs usually take three to four business days.

Oswego County DMV offices are located at 384 E. River Road, Oswego; 200 N. Second St., Fulton; and the H. Douglas Barclay Courthouse, Broad Street, Pulaski.
