Oswego Police Department K-9 Unit, Criminal Division Unit Grants Approved By Common Council

OSWEGO – The Oswego Common Council meeting was held last night, Monday, November 14. The meeting was brief with all 16 items on the agenda approved. 15 items were passed unanimously, one item passing by a margin of 5-1 with one excused (Resolution 344). Councilor McBrearty was excused from last night’s meeting.

One of the items passed during last night’s meeting was the acceptance of a grant from the Walmart Community Grants Team and Facility # 1926 to the Oswego Police Department. The donation amount of  $3,500.00 will help fund the purchase of Microsoft Surface Pro tablets for the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. 

Another item passed by the Council was acceptance of a federally funded grant in the amount of $14,242.00, again for the Oswego Police Department – the award falling under the FY2020 Explosive Detection Canine Team Grant Program. The monies will go toward ongoing training and maintenance of the OPD’s K-9 Program.

According to the agenda, “the donation will assist the Oswego City Police Department in Sustaining, maintaining, and training our K9 teams to support terrorism prevention activities in our jurisdiction.”
