OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting this week, the Common Council sailed through a rather light agenda.
The council approved settlement of the claim – Patricia Benjamin Vs. City of Oswego.
She had filed a claim against the city for damages resulting from flooding of her finished basement.
An investigation determined that the flooding was caused by negligence on the part of the city.
The city will pay Benjamin $16,463.84 in full settlement of her claim.
The councilors also approved the bid submitted by Almar/North River Boats for a new custom fire rescue boat. Funding for the boat remains a concern.
A FEMA Port Security Grant will pay 75 percent of the total cost.
The council approved use of an area adjacent to the Lagoe Field at Fort Ontario by the Oswego Elks Club for a picnic to be held on July 21.
And, use of a portion of West Second Street for a National Skateboarding Day fundraiser event to be held on July 20.
They accepted donation of a park bench in memory of Fran “Bomber” Weigelt to be located in Breitbeck Park.
The council approved attendance at the National Association of EMS Educators Instructor Course for one firefighter.
The course will be held in Washington, D.C. or maybe Buffalo.
Councilors also OK’d attendance at the Annual Training Session for Planning and Zoning Board members to be held August 2 in East Syracuse.
