COLORA, Maryland – Kathleen Kerry O’Loughlin of Oswego, a graduating senior and salutatorian at West Nottingham Academy, was awarded the school’s highest student honor, the Merit Award at commencement ceremonies held on Saturday, May 31.
Additionally, O’Loughlin received the school’s second highest honor, the Benjamin Rush Prize and the Drama Award for courage and commitment to theater.
She plans on attending Ithaca College this fall.
The Benjamin Rush Prize is named for a West Nottingham graduate who was one of America’s finest early citizens; a signer of the Declaration of Independence, an abolitionist, and the father of American psychology.
The award is given to the boy and girl in each graduating class who have achieved excellence in all endeavors, and whose behavior, attitude, and hard work best embody the school’s core values: service, respect, integrity, responsibility, perseverance, passion, and spirituality.
West Nottingham Academy, founded in 1744, is a co-educational, boarding and day school for grades 9-12.
Located in the northeastern corner of Maryland, WNA provides college-preparatory education for students from throughout the region and around the world.
Past students have included the Robert S. Brookings, founder of the Brookings Institution, NBA player Josh Boone, world-renowned painter Eric Fischl and Benjamin Rush & Richard Stockton, both signers of the Declaration of Independence.
