OSWEGO – Yesterday, June 8, at approximately 4:16 p.m., the Oswego Police Department was dispatched to West Schuyler Street near Montcalm Park for a complaint of a person with a gun.
Officers responded to the area locating a female in possession of a shotgun. Officers were able to apprehend Rita M. Powers, age 42 of Oswego, without incident.
As officers continued their investigation, it was determined that Powers had allegedly committed burglary as she illegally entered a residence and stole the shotgun with ammunition, according to police.
According to police, after leaving the residence, Powers began to wander the area and at one point had pointed the shotgun at a passing school bus. The school bus was occupined with two adults and four children. The adults on the bus observed Powers’s actions while the children did not.
As a result of the investigation, Powers was charged with the following:
The Oswego Police Department is working with the Oswego City School District to provide notifications to those involved.
Powers was held pending arraignment at the Oswego County CAP Court.
