OSWEGO, NY – On July 23, at about 11:23 p.m., Oswego City Police Officers patrolling on foot in the area of West Fourth Street / Lake Street in the city of Oswego observed a physical altercation in progress.
As officers approached the scene, they observed one male strike another male in the head with a metal bat.
Officers immediately took the subject into custody.
The 20-year-old male victim was transported by Oswego Ambulance to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, for treatment.
The victim reportedly suffered a three-inch laceration to the head and substantial pain.
The suspect, 20-year-old Jeremy W. Tassie of 77 Eisenhower Ave., Oswego, was processed at the Oswego Police Department and later arraigned in Oswego City Court on charges of second-degree assault (a Class D felony).
Upon arraignment, Tassie was remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail / $5,000 bond with a court date returnable to Oswego City Court on July 27.
According to Oswego City Police Chief Michael J. Dehm Jr., “We were fortunate to have officers in the area where the assault was occurring. Thanks to their immediate intervention the officers were able to successfully take the suspect into custody without the situation becoming worse. The investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remains on-going.â€
