Police, School District Announce Two Arrests

OSWEGO, NY – City police and school district officials today (Oct. 20) announced the arrests of two suspects in the recent bomb scares at Oswego schools.

One suspect is a student; the other is a district staff member.

Regarding the Oct. 7 bomb threat at Oswego Middle School, the suspect is a 15-year-old girl. Her name isn’t being released as she is a minor.

The suspect in the Oct. 15 bomb threat at OMS is 23-year-old Aleicia M. Stancliffe. She was identified by Superintendent William Crist as a teacher’s aide at OMS, working as a sign language interrupter for special needs students.

The police department has assisted the school district in its handling of a series of recent bomb threats which caused the evacuation of students.

Specifically:

October 7, 13 and 15 at Oswego Middle School

And, October 13, at Oswego High School.

Members of the police department, working in conjunction with the school district, have identified two suspects in two of the recent bomb threats occurring at Oswego Middle School.

The female student, being a juvenile, will be dealt with in Family Court for a crime which, if committed by an adult would amount to “Falsely Reporting an Incident in the First Degree” (a Class D Felony), according to Chief Michael Dehm.

Earlier this morning, after having been identified as a suspect through the investigative efforts of the police department with the cooperation of the school district, Stancliffe was arrested.

She was subsequently arraigned in Oswego City Court before the Honorable Judge James Metcalf on one count of “Falsely Reporting an Incident in the First Degree” (a Class D Felony).

Upon arraignment, Stancliffe was given pre-trial release with a return court date of November 19.

“The investigation into the pending incidents will be on-going. We have some people of interest who our investigators are locating and interviewing, and we will maintain our cooperative effort with the Oswego City School District,” Chief Dehm said. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank some of the outside agencies who have assisted us in our initial response to these incidents in addition to the Oswego City School District, such as: the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, New York State University Police at Oswego, the United States Border Patrol, the Oswego Fire Department and the Traffic Section of the Oswego Police Department. Each of these agencies provided needed manpower to assist in the Oswego City School District’s handling of one or more of the recent bomb threats.”
