Public Hearings Set For Tentative Oswego Code Changes

OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved some public hearings, but not all.

The council approved four of the five requests for public hearings recommended last week by the Planning and Development Committee.

They include:

All of the public hearings will be held in the Council Chamber of City Hall, 13 W. Oneida St.

A request for a public hearing for the proposed change pursuant to Section 280-95 of the Zoning Ordinance, Section 280-61 for billboard signs (to add billboard signs are prohibited in all zoning districts) was tabled.

The handful of existing billboard signs would be grandfathered and allowed to continue.

Councilors, however, want to know whether that means just the structure or the existing advertising.

There is confusion over whether a business could rent space on an existing billboard after the change takes place; or, does it mean that the ad must stay static?

The resolution will be debated further at the committee level.
