UPDATE 9/24/17:
Update: Missing fisherman – Sunset Bay Park – Lake Ontario – Scriba
On Sept. 24, the search for Mark Deiter resumed from about 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Mr. Deiter and his boat have not been located.
The search was conducted by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Oswego County Dive Team, U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, members of Scriba, Mexico, Phoenix, Sandy Creek Fire Stations and Menter Ambulance.
The search is scheduled to resume on Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.
The cause of this incident remains under investigation.

SCRIBA – At about 7:05 p.m. on Saturday (September 23), the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sunset Bay Park at 144 Lake Road in the town of Scriba for a missing fisherman on Lake Ontario.
Mark Deiter of Walnuttort, Pa., and two passengers were fishing on his 1994 Bayliner 23’ boat when at about 5:30 p.m. the boat began to take on water and sink.
The two passengers jumped from the boat, Mr. Deiter was on the boat when it went completely underwater and has not been seen since.
The two passengers used their floatation devices and a cooler to float in the water until they were finally spotted and rescued around 7 p.m. by other fishermen.
A search for Mr. Deiter was conducted by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office, Oswego County Dive Team, U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, Air One, members of Minetto, Mexico, Oswego City, Phoenix, Scriba, Parish, Hastings Fire Stations and Menter Ambulance.
The search for Mr. Deiter was suspended at about 1 a.m. on September 24 and resumed today (September 24) around 9 a.m.
The cause remains under investigation.
