OSWEGO, NY – OK, you can bring your teddy bears, but this year they probably should wear grass skirts.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and Oswego Harborfest will host a Treasure Island Luau on Sunday.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on West Fifth Street.
Dawn Metott, youth activities coordinator with the Youth Bureau, describes the event as “a great way for families to spend time together.”
The luau is a change from the Teddy Bear Tea that they held in years past, she explained; it is for boys as well as girls (age 10 and younger).
In the past, more than 150 children and parents have attended the Teddy Bear Teas each year.
“We anticipate just as big, if not bigger crowd this year. With suggestions from past participants, we changed the format to include both boys and girls,” Metott explained. “This year’s event will include a Treasure Hunt, music, karaoke, refreshments, many arts and crafts, lots of activities, goody bags for the kids, door prizes, and more.â€Â
Admission is $10 per person and includes activities and entertainment, refreshments and door prizes. Tickets are available through advance sale only and can be purchased through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau on Bunner Street in Oswego.
Wal-Mart has donated a Nintendo DS for the grand door prize.
“We have some nice door prizes to give out to kids like a free birthday party at Bounce N Around, swim lessons at the YMCA, Friendly’s gift certificates and other things,” Metott said. “The kids will also all get a gift bag with lots of goodies including a free kid’s meal at Canale’s.”
Children and parents are invited to dress in their best pirate, princess or tropical luau costume (please keep attire appropriate), Metott added.
