Trinity Pint-Size Hero Program Huge Success

OSWEGO, NY – Trinity Catholic students celebrated the recent success of their first Pint-Size Hero Program through the American Red Cross.

In May, the students set a goal of 25 blood donations, and they were able to surpass that number with 30 total donations.

In preparation, Trinity children K-6 received an educational presentation on the Pint-Size Hero program and the importance of sustaining a healthy blood supply in the community.

The American Red Cross Pint-Size Hero Program offered an opportunity for Trinity elementary students to participate in hosting a Red Cross blood drive at their school.

Students were responsible for the success of the blood drive by soliciting family members, friends or neighbors to give blood.

Sponsored by Trinity Catholic School’s Student Council, this fun community service project taught students to be involved in a volunteerism activity and gain organizational and communication skills.

Students also helped during the blood drive.

The donation was a simple four-step process: registration, medical history and mini-physical, donation and refreshments served by the students.

Every blood donor was given a mini-physical, checking the donor’s temperature, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin to ensure it is safe for the donor to give blood.

The actual blood donation typically took less than 10-12 minutes.

The entire process, from the time of arrival to the time you leaving, took about an hour and 15 minutes.

The average adult has about 10 pints of blood in his body.

Roughly 1 pint is given during a donation, potentially saving the lives of up to three people.

Trinity Catholic School would like to recognize their students and donors for the time and hard work they put forth to make sure that the event was a success and set a positive precedent for future drives.
