OSWEGO, NY – When you’re doing something for the children in the community, you’re going to get a lot of help – an awful lot of help.

“All I wanted to do was have a nice little Easter egg hunt that would be fun for kids. And then, this,” Jen Losurdo of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau said indicating the clutter of donations around the office. “This is bigger than Christmas (Light Up, Oswego). People have been donating like crazy for weeks.”
The Easter egg hunt is scheduled for March 26 in West Park.
There will be a children’s parade around the park, starting at 10:30 a.m.
The hunt will take place from 11 a.m. to noon with more than 100 prizes up for grabs.
The prizes donated to the event reads like a who’s who of Oswego businesses and groups. Even ordinary citizens are dropping off large quantities of chocolate rabbits and other Easter goodies.
Among those donating are: Burger King, Cam’s Pizza, Fajita Grill, Stone’s Homemade Candy Shop, McDonald’s, Friendly’s, 200 certificates for a game of bowling at Lighthouse Lanes, SOLO gave several gift certificates for downtown businesses, Master Pryor Tae Kwon Do, Sky Zone fun packs, a pool day for up to six people at the Captain’s Club, Mimi’s Home Cleaning, Stewarts Shops, Chuck Burger’s Karate, a $50 gift card from Wal-Mart $50, the Oswego Lions Club ($300 donation) and dozens more.
The Kiwanis Club donated three large gift baskets filled with candy and donated a (boy’s) bike as well. Novelis also donated a (girl’s) bike.
“JP Jewelers donated a small diamond owl necklace. Look how gorgeous this is. It’ll be a prize for the third to fifth grade group,” Losurdo said. “This is what people have donated. It’s been amazing; the response has really been amazing.”
NBT Bank donated some piggy banks – so, for good measure, Losurdo put 40 pennies in each one.
The colorful plastic eggs are ready to be “hidden” in the park.

Losurdo divided them up in boxes labeled for specific age groups.
There are 1,200 for Pre-K to fifth grade and 200 for the under Pre-K group.
The eggs contain numbered tickets that corresponded to numbered prizes.
Two gold eggs will have tickets for special (Pre-K to second grade) awards. Two copper eggs will be for third to fifth grade age group. A sparkly egg will be for the under Pre-K group.
Besides the hunt, the event includes Jump, Jive and Explore from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be photo opportunities with Peter Cottontail from noon to 1 p.m. and Performance Fitness demo at 12:30 p.m.
Free fireman hats, provided by the Oswego Fire Department, will be available for the kids. A candy jar count contest will run throughout the event.
“You don’t have to sign up to attend the Easter egg hunt. Just show up with your baskets and find some eggs and prizes!” Losurdo said. “This is a free event.”
She reminds parents to bring their cameras to take photos of the kids with the Easter Bunny.
