Important information below:
• Polling locations and hours: We are using the same three polling locations that we used for the
May 20 Budget Vote, but the hours for this Budget Revote are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you
have questions regarding which polling location you vote at, click on the following link, which will
prompt you to upload your information to find the location: click here[1].
• The revised school budget: We significantly reduced the tax levy increase from the original 6.86%
increase down to a 3% increase. This will be a reduction of $1.2 million, resulting in minor cuts to
staffing and programming, and the understanding that nothing can be added next year. The
overall educational program will still be very strong.
• If the revised budget fails on Tuesday: This will result in significant cuts to staffing and student
programming to make the $2.2 million reduction, which potentially will result in larger class sizes,
less electives at the high school, and significant reductions in all extracurricular activities, which
include athletics, band/fine arts, and our after-school clubs. As stated in previous correspondence,
New York State no longer allows the “pay to play” option for any athletic team that is cut or any
band/fine arts program that is also eliminated.

The June 17, 2025 Budget Revote will be one of the most important budget votes that we have had at
Central Square. As mentioned above, we were able to make $1.2 million in cuts from the original
proposed budget, with minimal impact to our students and overall program. If the revised budget were to
fail, significant cuts will be unavoidable. In a contingency budget, which would be the result if the budget
vote were to fail on June 17, besides New York State requiring us to charge any community organization to
use our facilities and fields (which includes community youth sports), there are a number of other
stipulations that we would be forced to adhere to, and we would not be able to create anything new for
next school year.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Colabufo
Superintendent
