Superintendent Response to Fulton Graduation

by Contributor | June 7, 2024 10:26 am

 Dear FCSD Community:

Our community has endured the unimaginable loss of three young people who would have graduated with the class of 2024 next week.

As outlined in our policy and regulation regarding recognizing students who have passed away, our graduation ceremony plan includes acknowledging the students, Isaac Bartleman, Rylee Bartlett and Brady Niver by name with a moment of silence following the national anthem, displaying a floral arrangement on the graduation stage in their memory and presenting their families with their diploma portfolio.

It is evident that, while not part of our policy, many members of our school community also wish to have the students remembered by placing a chair for them at the ceremony.

In order to keep the focus of this momentous occasion where it should be – on the celebration of the many accomplishments of the graduating class of 2024 – and to avoid any further disruption or distress resulting from implementation of our policy, chairs will be placed in remembrance of our students.

Please be assured that the intent of our policy is to allow our school response to a tragic loss to be sensitive to the needs of all members of the community, be consistent and equitable in each circumstance and allow our core educational mission to continue during our grieving.

Contrary to some misinformation being shared, our policy was not changed recently. The policy in place was adopted in January. After our celebrations of this school year are concluded, I will review the policy with our policy committee.

While we will never forget Isaac, Rylee or Brady, it is my sincere hope that our community can find peace, continue to heal, and come together to share the celebration that every one of our graduates so richly deserve.

Sincerely,

Brian Pulvino

Superintendent
