Nine Mile II Shut Down Due To Water Problem

OSWEGO, NY – Operators at Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station removed Unit 2 from service at 2:07 p.m. Feb. 18, after water levels in the unit’s reactor temporarily increased.

Station equipment responded as designed during the shutdown.

The unit remains offline and reactor water levels have returned to normal.

Company technical experts are working to determine the cause of the level increase.

Nine Mile Point Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.

Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is located seven miles northeast of Oswego and 50 miles north of Syracuse.

The station can produce more than 1,937 megawatts of carbon-free electricity – enough to power more than 1 million typical homes.
