OSWEGO, NY – Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station will host an open house on Wednesday, August 26, from 4-7 p.m. in the Training Center. This fun and educational event, known as Community Information Night, is open to all members of the community.
Station employees will be available to educate visitors on station operations, engineering practices, environmental stewardship, industrial safety, radiological safety, site security, emergency preparedness and much more. Visitors can also tour one of the facility’s main control room simulators, which is used to train reactor operators.
“Community Information Night is a great opportunity to learn more about a working nuclear station and meet the men and women who are dedicated to running it safely and reliably,” said Nine Mile Point Site Vice President Pete Orphanos. “We look forward to hosting this event each year and sharing our commitment to nuclear safety and environmental stewardship with our neighbors.”
Kids will enjoy the interactive, educational displays from the Children’s Museum of Oswego. Gannon’s Ice Cream will also be on site and souvenirs will be provided.
Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is located seven miles northeast of Oswego and 50 miles north of Syracuse. The station can produce more than 1,937 megawatts of carbon-free electricity – enough to power nearly two million homes.
