Nine Mile Point Unit I Goes Offline

SCRIBA – Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 1 was removed from service today (Dec. 10) at approximately 9 a.m. due to vibration indications on the main turbine, which is located on the non-nuclear side of the plant.

Operators took the appropriate action to shut down the unit in accordance with their procedures and training.

Technicians are working to identify the cause of the issue and determine required repairs.

The Nine Mile Point shutdown will not have an impact on electrical service to customers.

Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is located seven miles northeast of Oswego and 50 miles north of Syracuse.

The station can produce more than 1,937 megawatts of carbon-free electricity – enough to power nearly two million homes.
